Women’s Vision
Our Women’s Hospital touches the lives of more than 22,000 individuals each year, helping bring new life into the world and improving the lives of thousands of women.
Our care is in high demand and we are home to some of the leading figures in maternity and neonatal care. But the hospital is more than 50 years old and we urgently need an environment that matches the outstanding care that we provide.
The Big Build will allow the transformation of our site to meet modern healthcare standards. Building a new hospital block would create new facilities, more space and the ability to offer our care to even more families and women.
Our vision provides more gynaecology outpatients capacity and the expansion of our birthing centre so we can welcome more lives into the world. It will allow those precious moments to be even more magical by providing the space and privacy for new parents and newborns to properly bond.
The new hospital block will also allow improvements in technology and diagnostics. Waiting times and waiting lists will be reduced due to a more seamless flow of patients. Enhanced connectivity will mean that outcomes will be improved as patients benefit from rapid access to high-quality diagnostics and optimum therapeutic interventions. It will mean better facilities for remote and virtual treatment. Through intelligent time we will create efficiencies for staff.
It will support increased research and development opportunities and complement the investment in the area in the new Life Sciences Park close to our Edgbaston base. As the host of the regional genetics network, our scientists are working on exciting new treatments that can revolutionise care through personalised medicine.
